Babies MarcAnthony and Teegan are not twins but almost everything else about their births is identical.
The babies were born on the same day at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and were delivered by the same physician. They weighed exactly the same-6 pounds, 5 ounces and were 19 inches long.
But that’s not all, their mothers-co-workers at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital-had no idea the other was in labor just down the hall. The moms Raffaela Crudele, behavioral health counselor, and Nikki Leonard, regional recruiter, would compare pregnancy stories in passing in the cafeteria.
“It was nice to have Nikki around to talk to about the pregnancy,” Crudele said. “Since she has had other children and this was my first, she would give me pointers and tell me what to expect with a new baby.”
“When I was at the hospital, I noticed Raffaela’s name on the patient board in the labor and delivery unit,” Leonard said. “I thought it was a funny coincidence and the doctor didn’t know we work together until I pointed it out.”
Dr. Mary Jean Cannon delivered both babies roughly six hours apart. Crudele delivered a boy, MarcAnthony Joseph, at 12:07 a.m. and Leonard a girl, delivered Teegan Michaela, at 7:40 a.m. on April 27.
“It was one of those shock and awe moments in life where all you can do is laugh,” Leonard said.
“It is very mysterious how things in life work out the way they do,” Crudele added. “This is one story that I will never be able to forget.”
Crudele resides in Cary and Leonard lives in Willow Springs. Both mothers are currently on maternity leave. Leonard hopes to return to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in a couple of weeks while Crudele will return at the end of July.
