Watch for updates on a new teen volunteer program to come in late 2016.
We are crafting a new teen volunteer program for our Hospice - We think this revitalized program will be a terrific way to gain meaningful experience through volunteer work, as well as to give back to the community. While our current program is on hiatus, please take a moment to explore some past St. Thomas Teen activities.
By becoming a teen volunteer for St. Thomas Hospice, our teens have been exposed to many different educational experiences designed to help others while benefiting the teens' own futures. After attending the mandatory training session, teens chose from a variety of flexible volunteer options. One such option was to volunteer one on one with a Hospice patient. Once assigned to a patient in their area, teens arranged visits with hospice patients and provided such interactions as reading to the patient, reminiscing about the past, playing music or assisting them with yard work or household chores.
Teens also chose to volunteer at group events. Once a month they met at our office to create craft projects that the Hospice nurses then delivered their handcrafted gifts to the patients. We've also hosted ice cream socials at local healthcare facilities, flower and candy deliveries, murals, bingo games, music concerts and craft projects, fundraisers and holiday caroling.
