Enjoy food, massages during mammogram event
Women who have never had a mammogram are invited to undergo their first one during a special event designed to feel more like a trip to the spa than a visit to the doctor’s office. Adventist Midwest Health invites “first timers” to enjoy free food, free chair massages, gift bags, and lessons on breast self-exams before or after their mammogram. There’s also a chance to win great prizes.
“Going to get your first mammogram can be a frightening, intimidating experience,” said Sandy Mueller, technical manager of Adventist Midwest Health’s DuPage Imaging Center. “If we can provide a welcoming environment, where women are surrounded and supported by other first-timers, maybe we can encourage women to come give mammography a try.”
Mammography screening remains the best available method to detect breast cancer early. Along with performing monthly self breast exams, getting annual clinical breast exams and obtaining a risk assessment from a physician, undergoing regular mammography screenings starting at age 40 is an integral part of practicing good breast health.
The “first timers” event takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 at the following locations. To register, call (630) 856-7070. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
