Learn about cancer prevention at free event
Glendale Heights – Dr. Leela Rao, a board-certified oncologist, and Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s oncology services department will present a free healthy meal to accompany a program on cancer prevention strategies.
Participants will learn how eating for health can be your first defense against free radicals that can increase cancer risk. The program is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. Rao will forgo the traditional lecture and instead use a game show format to highlight cancer prevention strategies.
“Cancer is a product of genes, which cannot do much about, and our personal environment, which we can alter,” Rao said. “Let’s focus on what we can do to lower our risk for the various cancers by examining the food we eat and the pollutants we breathe.”
But cancer prevention is only one benefit from doing well on Rao’s quiz. “I will also have a small prize for those who have the best score,” Rao said.
