Nearly 2,000 cancer survivors and their families are expected to attend this year’s Cancer Survivors Day program and lunch hosted by Adventist Midwest Health. Registration will begin at 11:15 a.m. and the event will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Brookfield Zoo, 3300 Golf Road, Brookfield.
The theme of this year’s event is “Living in Full Bloom” to promote survivorship and inspiration. Cancer Survivors Day acknowledges individuals who received cancer-related treatment at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. This year the survivors will receive two zoo passes, two event tickets and one parking pass. Additional event tickets will cost $10 plus the zoo entry fee and additional parking costs $9.
“Every year the Cancer Survivors Day celebration is a very important event to our patients,” said Clarissa Moholick, regional manager of cancer data management for Adventist Midwest Health. “Our program is designed to honor all of our survivors and to also encourage those who have recently been diagnosed by showcasing the people who have been survivors for decades.”
Heidi Kramer, of Cary, and Yamaha recording artist Kerri Sherwood, of Kenosha, Wis., will present “Celebrate Sweet Life,” an inspirational performance that blends music and Kramer’s story of breast cancer survival. As an international speaker and registered dietician, she offers her message of healing and hope to every audience.
Adventist Midwest Health administration, physicians and pastoral care staff will also speak about the current and future cancer treatment opportunities and local cancer survivors will share their stories.
Registration ends July 30. For more information call 630-856-7525, or to sign up online go to www.keepingyouwell.com.
