Hospital, church partner to host free community concert
Hinsdale – Contemporary Christian music artist Fernando Ortega will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Christ Church of Oak Brook during an event sponsored by Christ Church and Adventist Midwest Health. Christ Church is located at 31st Street and York Road. Tickets are free but space is limited so registration is required. For more information, call 630-856-7525.
“We’re proud to be able to sponsor this inspirational night of worship in our community,” said John Rapp, Adventist Midwest Health regional vice president, ministries and mission. “It’s just one of the ways we fulfill our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ beyond the walls of our hospitals.”
Ortega is a singer-songwriter noted for his interpretations of traditional hymns including “Give Me Jesus” and “Be Thou My Vision.” He also is known for writing songs such as “This Good Day.” Of his 2006 record, “The Shadow of Your Wings,” Oretega said: “My hope is that these songs will resonate with and bring comfort to people who have lost a loved one or who feel there’s something lacking in their communion with God.”
The concert will take place during the church’s weeklong “World Vision Experience: AIDS,” a 3,000-square-foot interactive exhibit that invites visitors to “step into Africa” by hearing, seeing and walking through an African village to personally experience the lives of children affected by AIDS. The stirring audio tour and captivating photography will transport you into the life of an African child and give you a new perspective on the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time.
