La Grange – Spring is in the air. Warmer weather means spending more time in your backyard. To celebrate the new season, Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital is hosting “Backyard-ology,” a family health exposition, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 15 in the hospital’s Dixon Education Center, 5101 S. Willow Springs Road.
“From our backyard to yours, we are reaching out to provide health information the members of our community need,” said Rick Wright, chief executive officer of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. “It’s just one way to show our continuing commitment to providing world-class healthcare for those who live and work in the communities we serve.”
Backyard-ology will feature educational displays and demonstrations, blood pressure screenings, gardening and grilling tips, refreshments, and craft projects for children.
During the event, Adventist Paulson Rehab Network employees will demonstrate and offer reaction time testing, balance testing and exercises people can do while lounging on their patio.
“After being inside all winter, many people suffer from strains or repetitive motion injuries once they return outdoors,” said Mary Murphy, chief nursing officer. “It is important during any activity – whether gardening or golfing – that people take care of themselves to avoid injury. Being healthy and safe is so important.”
Additional participants include Abloom Floral, The Chalkboard, Flagg Creek Golf Course, the La Grange Fire Department, Pleasant Dale Park District and the Southwest Suburban Center on Aging.
