La Grange – Enrollments are now being accepted for the second round of smoking cessation classes offered this year at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 S. Willow Springs Road in La Grange.
The second session of classes starts April 9. The classes cost $129 and were developed by the American Lung Association. Classes are limited to 10 people.
To enroll, call the Health Information Line at (630) 856-7525, or Adventist La Grange Cardiac Rehab at (708) 245-3636.
Classes last seven weeks, said Yadira Mastny, registered nurse at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. Participants meet once a week, except for week four, when they meet twice.
Week four, “Quit Week,” includes a second class to offer smokers more support following their final cigarette.
Sessions run as group meetings where participants talk about their reasons for quitting. Nicotine withdrawal, available medications, stress relief and diet are also discussed.
Two more smoking cessation sessions are scheduled this year. The third session starts July 9, and the fourth session starts Oct. 8.
