Rooney Heart 5K Fun Run & Walk September 16

A trek through the scenic residential streets of Hinsdale is the heart of the 21st Annual 5K Rooney Heart Fun Run & Walk, sponsored by Adventist Hinsdale and Adventist
La Grange Memorial Hospitals.  The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, September 16, and will be held rain or shine.

Race day registration starts at 7 a.m.  The 5K (3.1-mile) Fun Run & Walk follows a USATF-certified 5K (3.1-mile) course through the beautiful residential area of Hinsdale.  A special Jump Rope for Heart event for children ages 10 and younger will begin at 9:30 a.m..

What began 20 years ago as an event for cardiac rehabilitation patients has grown into a competitive race for people of all ages.  More than 800 people participated in the event last year and the number continues to grow.

Prizes include $300 cash awards for the Best Time Overall Top Male and Top Female. The top three finishers, both male and female in each age category, will be awarded prizes as well.  Jump Rope for Heart participants will receive a goodie bag filled with giveaways.

Anyone who sets a new course record this year will receive $50 cash.  The male record is 14:46 and the female record is 17:32.  The race is timed using the ChampionChip system, which uses an electronic chip attached to the shoe that records the time.  Results will be posted the day after the race on the Adventist Midwest Health Web site, www.keepingyouwell.com.

All participants will receive a long sleeve 5K Fun Run & Walk T-shirt.  Post-race activities include an awards ceremony, music and great food, including bagels, yogurt, fruit and other refreshments.

Fees for the event are $25 for pre-registered participants, $23 for senior citizens ages 65 and up and $22.50 for CARA members.  There is no fee for children participating in the Jump Rope for Heart event.  Race day registration will open at 7 a.m.; close at 8:15 a.m. and will cost $30.  No race day discounts will be given.

To register for the event, visit www.keepingyouwell.com and save $2 off the $25 race fee by registering online by midnight September 13.  For more information, or to volunteer at the event, please call 630-856-7555.
