Hospital encourages community to stay up-to-speed by signing up for project updates

Hinsdale – As Adventist Hinsdale Hospital prepares for construction of the new Patient Pavilion, the hospital is reaching out to the community to share upcoming changes on its campus.

“We are thrilled to begin moving forward with our new patient pavilion,” said David L. Crane, president and CEO of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. “This new pavilion brings a renewed commitment to patient-centered care and advanced technologies.”

Over the summer months, the community will begin to see changes on the hospital’s campus. The first changes will be preparing for construction and moving materials on site. Crews will begin clearing shrubs and trees from the site and creating construction staging areas across the street on the hospital’s east campus.

Beginning early July, hospital entrances and access to parking will change from Oak Street to Elm Street, which borders the west side of the hospital campus. All patient drop-offs, parking and valet access will take place within the visitor parking garage. Patients and visitors will enter the hospital building through the sheltered parking garage. Signs in and around the campus will remind patients and visitors of the changes.

“We’re doing everything we can to make this process as easy as possible for our patients and their families,” Crane said. “We’re setting up a special information desk inside this new, temporary entrance, where one of our friendly staff members will be able to direct people to their destination.”

The hospital is providing updates to the community through a number of platforms, including its Web site, and an E-newsletter dedicated exclusively to this project. All information can be accessed at AdventistHinsdaleModernization.com. Residents are encouraged to sign-up for the E-newsletter alerts to stay informed of the temporary changes during both the preparation and construction phases of the project.

“We will do our best to keep everyone informed,” Crane said. “Community input played an important role as we crafted our vision for the future, and we want to continue these conversations as our vision become a reality. The project Web site will facilitate community feedback. If issues come up, we want to know and respond.”

Preparation work will continue through the summer. Construction will officially begin in the fall, with a community celebration tentatively planned for September.

The new patient pavilion is targeted for opening in early 2012. Private rooms, an improved critical care unit and a renovated surgical services department will be among the features of the state-of-the-art facility. An on-site helistop will provide outward transport when critical life-saving care is needed. The new pavilion will also include a bright and spacious lobby and new chapel.

“These changes will help us to better serve our patients, employees, physicians and the community we call home,” Crane said.

The Village of Hinsdale approved the project in February.
