Bolingbrook – Plainfield resident Dawn Mertes, a payroll clerk, was named 2008 Employee of the Year for Adventist Midwest Health’s Tallgrass office. Mertes, 38, was recognized for her positive attitude and willingness to lend a hand.
“Dawn is extremely helpful and polite and does everything possible to help others,” said her manager, Regina Dewitt, payroll supervisor. “Employees from other departments consistently praise Dawn for her thoroughness in explaining policies and ensuring that everyone’s questions are answered.”
Mertes, who celebrated her first anniversary as an Adventist Midwest Health employee on Feb. 5, also makes sure payroll data is kept confidential, Dewitt said.
According to Mertes, being able to assist others is the best part of her job.
“Even though I’m not directly involved in patient care, I feel like I’m truly making a difference in the lives of others through my work here,” Mertes said. “Also, I love my co-workers.”
Mertes was recognized at Adventist Midwest Health’s annual Employee of the Year celebration, held Feb. 4 at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Oak Brook. This is the first time employees from the organization’s Tallgrass office in Bolingbrook were recognized. The Tallgrass office at 1000 Remington Boulevard houses departments that support the four suburban Chicago hospitals of Adventist Midwest Health: Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. These departments include finance, human resources, patient financial services, public relations, and information technology, among others. Each Employee of the Year receives a plaque and a $1,000 check.
