Hospital security officers receive important certification

Hinsdale – Recently 12 Adventist Hinsdale Hospital security officers received basic training certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS).  These officers were trained and tested on topics including crisis intervention, terrorism, and emergency management and response in order to receive the certification.

The IAHSS, devoted to improving healthcare security and safety, offers training to healthcare security officers by focusing on the skills provided in the IAHSS Basic Training Manual and Study Guide.  During the basic training certification process, security officers learn the fundamentals of safety in a healthcare environment and are tested through a series of multiple choice exams based on the training manuals.  In order to earn the certification, officers must obtain at least a 75 percent on each exam.

This certification is an important component of the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital security department’s continuing educational development.  James Today, administrative director of patient experience and facilities, continues to strive for excellence in hospital security.

“It is our goal for every employee to complete this process within a year of being hired,” Today said.  “This certification demonstrates our commitment to keeping our patients and visitors safe.”
