Bolingbrook – Adventist
officials dropped off nearly 100 supply-filled school backpacks for students in the Valley
School District 365U.
This is the third year hospital employees spearheaded the community effort,
tripling the number of backpacks collected last year.
The brand-new backpacks were
stuffed with grade-appropriate supplies – including crayons, markers,
notebooks, and folders – for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. Donations
were collected July 22 – Aug. 19 and dropped off Tuesday at Bernard J. Ward Elementary School
“We didn’t set a numerical goal for
the backpack collection this year, but I have a long-bed pickup truck that I
wanted to fill and we did that,” said Kathy Mitchell, chief nursing officer at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.
The first day of the 2008-09 school
year in District 365U is Monday for students in grades 1-12 and Tuesday for
