Hospital employee honored for 45 years of service

La Grange – While hospital food is known for being bland and unappealing, a food and nutrition services employee at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital is known for her outstanding nutritional creations.

Summit resident Willie Harris recently was honored for dedicating 45 years to the hospital. Described by her colleagues as being “loving, kind, an asset to have, and a wonderful person to know,” Harris is known for her hard work, compassion, and incredible fruit plates.

Harris is responsible for the cold production for the patient trayline.  She creates quality salads, desserts, cold plates, and delicious fruit cups.  Many patients are continuously impressed by the quality and taste of the food she prepares.

“Willie’s presence in the food and nutrition services department can be felt as soon as one sets foot in the door,” said a fellow co-worker.  “Her warm smile, calm demeanor, and hard work are inspirational qualities to the rest of us.”

Michael Yore, director of food and nutrition services at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital said: “Willie is a joy to work with, because she does her job with great enthusiasm and perfection.  Her talents have grown over the years, and she is very helpful to her fellow workers.”

“Working with great people is the best thing about my job,” said Harris.  “Helping replenish patients with healthy fruit brings me great joy.”

Rick Wright, the hospital’s chief executive officer, praised Harris for her many years of service.

“Through her enthusiasm and skills, Willie Harris has brought the culinary experience of a five-star restaurant to our patients,” Wright said.  “We are truly thankful she has dedicated 45 years to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.”

More than 350 employees were recognized for dedicating 10 or more years of service to Adventist Midwest Health. Employees received gifts and were recognized at the organization’s annual service awards dinner, held April 16 at the Doubletree Esplanade Lakes in Downers Grove.
