Hospital, District 181 Foundation announce new partnership to support science, math programs
Hinsdale – Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and the District 181 Foundation have formed a partnership to help support STEM – science, technology, engineering and math – education in Community Consolidated School District 181.

It’s the first major partnership between the hospital and the Foundation, said Meg Cooper, executive director for the District 181 Foundation. In the past year, the Foundation has supported individual programs such as teacher training in inquiry-based models of science education and STEM exploration labs, giving students a chance to see how physics principles apply to everyday life.

“We’re looking forward to collaborating with the hospital in the development of new programs that show students how what they’re learning in science and math can apply to careers in medicine and the medical field,” Cooper said.

As part of the partnership, the hospital will send home health and wellness information to District 181 families through the Foundation’s monthly electronic messages to parents, said Dinna Huneryager, senior marketing and events specialist with Adventist Hinsdale and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospitals.

“That will include all kinds of information, such as how to pack and carry your backpack safely or tips on nutrition and physical fitness,” Huneryager said.

The partnership will help the hospital reach out and help educate residents through a new avenue, Huneryager said.

“We are their community hospital, and we want to reach out to where our friends, neighbors and community members are,” she said.

Formed in 1997, the District 181 Foundation has invested more than $500,000 in educational initiatives for District 181 students. The district includes seven elementary schools and two middle schools serving Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills and parts of Burr Ridge, Willowbrook and Oak Brook.
