Hospital appoints new medical director

Hinsdale – Adventist Hinsdale Hospital is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Frank Lutrin as medical director of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the hospital’s Rooney Heart Institute. A cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, Lutrin has treated patients at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital since 1999. He replaces the late Dr. David Calandra.

“Dr. Lutrin is a talented physician and inspiring leader who puts patient care first,” said David L. Crane, president and CEO of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. “It is because of surgeons like Dr. Lutrin that Adventist Hinsdale Hospital is recognized as a world-class institution.”

A native of Cape Town, South Africa, Lutrin earned his medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 1987. He did general surgery training at the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of California-Los Angeles Medical Center in 1997. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He also is a clinical assistant professor at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

“I came here a decade ago because of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s reputation and commitment to excellence,” said Lutrin, a 45-year-old Chicago resident. “Today, I am honored to take on a leadership role with an organization that is passionate about patients, their families and the local community.”

The Rooney Heart Institute provides state-of-the-art treatment and rehabilitation services for cardiac patients as well as educational programs. It is part of the Adventist Cardiovascular Network, which blends the resources of leading-edge technology with the specialized care and convenience of a community hospital setting.
