Have you scheduled your annual mammogram?

La Grange – The recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month often reminds women age 40 and older to schedule their annual mammogram. But anytime is a good time to come in for a mammogram at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.

“Because we respect your busy schedule, we’ll get you in quickly so you can get your results and get going,” said Dr. Colleen Hagen, a breast surgeon who treats patients at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. “In contrast to some hospitals that have seven-month waits, we accept same-day and next-day appointments for screening mammograms.”

Patients do not need to travel outside of their community to receive quality breast-health care, Hagen added.

“Our centers employ eight trained breast imaging radiologists, including two who are dedicated exclusively to mammography,” Hagen said. “Our statistics for early diagnosis, breast conservation and prognosis have consistently been equal to or better than the university center nearest our hospital. Our community-centered facility and staff provide expert, compassionate care that is individualized and close to home.”

In fact, compared to teaching hospitals in Illinois and similar comprehensive community cancer programs in the state, Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital physicians diagnose more breast cancer patients at an earlier stage. Early diagnosis can increase a patient’s chance of survival. Nearly 85 percent of breast cancer patients diagnosed at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital were diagnosed in the early stage (0 to 2), compared to 80.6 percent of patients nationally, 81.9 percent of patients at Illinois teaching hospitals and 84.2 percent of patients at comprehensive community cancer programs in Illinois, according to most recent data available from the National Cancer Database, Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The data was reported in 2005.

In addition to screening and diagnostic mammograms, the hospital offers breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided biopsies. Call (630) 856-7070 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
