When we pulled into Villa de San Francisco on Thursday, we were welcomed by a crowd already lined up as long as the length of the building. They had started lining at 4 a.m. so they wouldn’t miss their chance to see the doctors.
After the team unloaded the bus and began setting up their areas, an upset man approached Holly outside and pointed to his leg, which was bleeding. Geoff was outside too, and he led him inside to the clinic.
The man told our translators that he had just been shot in the mid calf of his right leg. Our orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Suchy and Dr. Paik, examined him, and could see that the bullet went through and through, missing the bone and artery. Dr. Suchy irrigated the wound and then used a scalpel to cut away the burnt tissue to prevent infection.
Surgeon Rapp held the flashlight as the doctors worked, and the man stayed relatively calm throughout the procedure. He told us he was just up the street selling cigarettes from the back of his motorcycle, when two men approached him, one holding a machete. They tried to rob him, and when he resisted and started to drive off, the other man pulled out a gun and shot him in the leg.
Within 30 minutes, the man was all bandaged up and was ready to go. The doctors gave him instructions, and sent him off with antibiotics. The man walked out of the clinic, hopped on his motorcycle, and drove away. The entire visit had taken 30 minutes.
Now that’s urgent care!

Well, I have just spent the last few minutes reading and catching up with your post; you have had a crazy busy few days. Seeing those videos of the lines remind me of the lines for Black Friday, but for things that people actually need. It is so powerful to hear the stories about people asking for prayer, the way you are all caring for your patients and going beyond what is expected. Passing out the glasses is a true gift. In grade school I started to lose my sight and didn't say anything right away because I didn't know to, but when you get that vision back it really is an amazing gift, just to be able to see clearly.
Ms. Hadraba, I pray that you are doing well and I ask that you pray for me. I'm preaching tomorrow, playing special song, and doing all of this in a formal suit... so it's going to be strange. It's rough being down here and not going out for Sushi with you :P Your house is nice and clean for when you get back, you will have a present (or two (maybe, if you're good)) waiting for you when you get back. I love you lots and miss you lots; pray for your safety and wellbeing everyday and am looking forward to hearing from you when you get back. Happy Sabbath. <3<3<3
