Hinsdale – The 22nd Annual 5K
Rooney Heart Fun Run & Walk, sponsored by Adventist Hinsdale and Adventist
La Grange Memorial
Hospitals, begins at 8:30
a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 and will be held rain or shine. The 5K (3.1-mile) Fun Run & Walk goes
through beautiful residential areas of Hinsdale.
A special “jump rope for heart” event for children age 10 and younger will
begin at 9:30 a.m.
What began 21 years ago as an event
for cardiac rehabilitation patients has grown into a competitive race for runners
of all ages. More than 500 people participated in the event last year and the
number continues to grow.
All participants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt.
Post-race activities include an awards ceremony, music and refreshments. Prizes
include $150 cash awards for the best time overall for male and female
categories. The top three finishers, both male and female in each age category,
will be awarded prizes as well. Jump rope participants will receive goodie bags.
Runners who set a new course record
will receive $50. The male record is 14:46 and the female record is 17:32. The
race is timed using the ChampionChip system, which uses an electronic chip
attached to the shoe that records the time. Results will be posted the day
after the race at www.keepingyouwell.com.
Fees for the event are $25 for
pre-registered participants and $23 for senior citizens ages 65 and up. Race
day registration takes place from 7 to 8:15 a.m. and costs $30; no discounts
will be given to day-of registrants. There is no fee for the jump rope
