Fall festival to benefit pediatric rehab center
Hinsdale – Adventist Paulson Pediatric Rehab Center invites children of all ages and their families to its 4th annual Fall Festival, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the center, 222 East Ogden Ave., Hinsdale.
Admission is $10 per child. Adults are free. Proceeds from the festival benefit the center’s clients.
“The first year we had our festival, we were able to buy parallel bars,” said Linda Bernal, department coordinator. “We use the money to buy the bigger, expensive pieces of equipment that aren’t in our budget so we can better serve our clients.”
The 2009 festival will include a petting zoo, two clowns – Jelly Bean and Piccolo – face painting, a moon bounce, fall crafts, fall games and prizes, a food court and raffles. All children will receive a free pumpkin. Parents can also obtain ChildSafe ID cards for their children.
“The kids are very excited about the petting zoo because we’ve never had one here,” Bernal said. “We’re having ducks, chickens, goats, sheep, a lamb, a pot-bellied piglet and a rabbit, plus either a miniature donkey or llama. And the police department and the fire department will be here, so kids can hop into the fire truck and police car.”
In the past, Adventist Paulson Pediatric Rehab Center offered the fall festival only to the children it serves. This year, it wants to include the entire community. Bernal anticipates several hundred people will attend.
“We wanted to have something fun for all kids, not just our clients,” Bernal said.
Adventist Paulson Pediatric Rehabilitation Center provides physical, occupational and speech therapies as well as hearing services for children ages 0 to 21 with various disabilities.
