Glendale Heights – For Maria Knecht, RN, MSN, CNA-BC, the new director of the medical-surgical and intensive care units at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, providing excellent medical treatment and nursing care is not enough. True patient satisfaction is also measured in how the patient perceives his or her care.
“A patient must not only receive quality care, but they must perceive they have personally experienced quality care,” the Downers Grove resident said. “Patients admitted to a hospital can be touched by 70 different employees or volunteers during their stay. Making sure they feel connected to all their caregivers is a challenge.”
It’s a challenge Knecht met at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and she plans to continue that philosophy of patient care at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Loyola University and a certificate in nursing and healthcare administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In her previous position, Knecht led several departments, include acute med-surg, ED/EMSS/trauma and inpatient post-surgical and bariatric services. She has extensive experience in leadership and staff development and was a key member of her previous organization’s Magnet recognition preparation team. She has 23 years of nursing experience, working in administration and management for the last 15 of them.
“It’s really a privilege to be part of the team at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital and help improve a strong community,” Knecht said. “I’m proud to share the journey.”
Jackie Conrad, chief nursing officer/vice president of patient care services at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, believes Knecht as a key factor in quality nursing care and superior patient outcome and welcomes her to the Adventist GlenOaks leadership team.
“Maria has a proven track record of success, contributing to outstanding patient satisfaction scores in her areas of responsibility,” Conrad said. “She will help us achieve our goals of transforming care and transforming lives here at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital.”
