Echo technician is Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital’s Employee of the Year

Summary: Echo technician Sandra Konecki-Blair, of New Lenox, is Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital’s Employee of the Year. She is pictured with Rick Mace, the hospital’s chief executive officer.

Bolingbrook – Sandra Konecki-Blair works with hearts. As an echo cardiovascular technician at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, she operates equipment that takes a comprehensive ultrasound of the heart. The test measures the mechanical work of the heart, such as how the blood flows and how the valves are operating, providing crucial diagnostic information. Konecki-Blair is known for her demeanor and caring attitude, which can help brighten the heart of an ailing patient.

“I’ve had health issues and I know what it’s like to be in a hospital,” said Konecki-Blair, a resident of New Lenox. “For me, it’s important and rewarding to work in a place where you can make people feel better.”

Recognized for forming productive relationships with staff and patients, she was named the hospital’s 2010 employee of the year.

“Sandy is an awesome team player,” said her supervisor, Brian Saso, manager of the cardiology pulmonary unit. “Day in and day out, she comes to work with a bright, warm, cheery spirit. She has a great personality and a sense of humor that helps in working effectively with sick patients. Our work is very stressful, and she often brightens things up with her laugh, or by doing something fun. She cares as much about her co-workers as she does about the patients.”

Konecki-Blair has worked at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for nearly two years. She previously worked for Adventist Midwest Health but left the organization when she and her family moved to New Lenox. With the opening of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital in 2008, Konecki-Blair was glad to find that she could return to work at Adventist Midwest Health. The development of the I-355 extension made the commute doable.

“Adventist Midwest Health is an organization that is rooted in Christian values,” Koneck-Blair said. “From the CEO on down, everyone is on the same page. Patients come first. It’s a wonderful place to work. I feel very blessed.”

Konecki-Blair began her career as a cardiovascular technician doing EKGs. She studied to become an echo cardiovascular technician at the Medical Careers Institute in Chicago.

Konecki-Blair and her husband, John, have four sons, age 15, 12, 10 and 7. She was recognized at Adventist Midwest Health’s annual Employee of the Year celebration, held Feb. 10 at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Oak Brook. Each Employee of the Year receives a plaque and a $1,000 check.
