‘Dancing with Our Stars’ to benefit Adventist Hinsdale Hospital

Hinsdale Hospital Medical Staff Auxiliary Junior Board members rehearse at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio Burr Ridge for their upcoming performance at “Dancing with our Stars,” the 2012 Hinsdale Hospital Medical Staff Auxiliary fundraiser, scheduled Feb. 25.

Hinsdale – “Dancing with Our Stars: Mad Men Style,” a Hinsdale Hospital Medical Staff Auxiliary 2012 fundraiser, will take place Feb. 25 at the historic Willowbrook Ballroom, 8900 Archer Ave., Willow Springs. Proceeds will benefit the new cancer center.

The event begins with cocktails and a silent auction at 6 p.m., dance performances at 7 p.m., with dinner and dancing to the 20-piece Outcast Jazz Band to follow. Dance performances will feature physicians, staff members, and community residents paired with professional dance instructors from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Burr Ridge, a co-sponsor of the event, as well as a performance by the auxiliary’s Junior Board.

“We’re looking forward to an evening of fun and fellowship that will benefit a very good cause,” said David L. Crane, president and CEO of Adventist Midwest Health. “Our new outpatient cancer center will enable us to continue to provide world-class care and treatment.”

The “stars” dancing at the event include:

· Kimberly Arquilla

· Craig Milkint, PNC Wealth Management, Hinsdale

· Dr. Dwight Kett

· Dr. Marisa Saint Martin

· Dr. Gayle Simmons

· Shawn Tyrrell, chief nursing officer, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital

· and other mystery stars

Event co-chairs are Kimberly and Venanzio Arquilla. Venanzio is a member of the Adventist Midwest Health operating board and former Hinsdale Hospital Foundation board member.

“Venny and I are thrilled to chair this event because supporting the hospital means a great deal to us,” said Kimberly, a Hinsdale resident. “Adventist Hinsdale Hospital took excellent care of my father-in-law, Primo,  who had terminal cancer. The staff was expert, caring and compassionate. We would like to help the community become more aware of what a great hospital we have in our own backyard.”

The event theme is taken from two popular television shows, “Dancing with the Stars,” and “Mad Men,” about Madison Avenue advertising in the early 1960s.

“The Willowbrook Ballroom has so much history and nostalgia,” said Dina Kritsas, of Wheaton, president of the Hinsdale Medical Staff Auxiliary. “It was an inspiration for our ‘Mad Men’ theme. Guests are invited to dress in period clothing from the 1960s, but it isn’t mandatory. This event is geared toward strengthening relationships between the hospital, physicians and the community families that they serve while having a really great time!”

The new cancer center will provide treatment, preventive care and social services at one outpatient location for patients of Adventist Hinsdale and Adventist La Grange Memorial hospitals.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio offers ballroom and Latin dance instruction at all levels – from beginners to seasoned competitors – in a convenient Burr Ridge location. The studio also features youth classes and Zumba Fitness classes.

The legendary Willowbrook Ballroom was established in 1921 as an outdoor dance hall. It flourished during the 1920s, but was destroyed by fire in 1930. Willowbrook was rebuilt and through the decades became a favored venue to jazz icons like Count Basie and Benny Goodman.

Tickets are $150. Premium seating is available at $2,000 for a table of ten. Tickets are $40 for Junior Board members and children eighth grade through high school. Young guests must be accompanied by an adult.

“We are determined to surpass the success of our first Dancing with Our Stars event, which was held two years ago,” said Susan King, executive director of the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation. “Put on your dancing shoes and join us!”
