Glendale Heights – Adventist GlenOaks Hospital has named Maria Knecht its Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer as part of the hospital’s ongoing focus on superlative patient care.
This year will mark Knecht’s 26th year in nursing. She said she became a nurse to make a positive impact on people’s lives. She joined Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in 2010 as the hospital’s medical/surgical and intensive care unit director. She was the interim Chief Nursing Officer at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital leading up to the official appointment to Chief Nursing Officer.
“The healthcare environment continues to evolve so it’s critically important to having a strong leader at the helm,” said Adventist GlenOaks Hospital Chief Executive Officer Bruce C. Christian. “Maria is an exceptional nurse and an exceptional nursing leader. She has made it her personal goal to ensure an optimal patient experience here with every nursing interaction.”
Since taking on the interim role, Knecht said she has focused on enhancing teamwork, collaboration and communication among the hospital’s nursing leaders and staff, which translates into making patients feel more comfortable and informed during their hospital stay.
“Adventist GlenOaks Hospital is a faith-based, mission-driven organization and that is very important to me as a leader and a nurse,” said Knecht. “It is our responsibility to fulfill that mission with every encounter we have with our patients and their families. The sense of caring and compassion our professional nurses provide is as important in the healing process as their clinical expertise and the quality of care they deliver. We are committed to listening to our patients’ needs and delivering highly personalized, compassionate care.”
Through Knecht’s previous work experiences, she helped achieve Magnet, Baldridge and Lincoln designations. She is bringing these nursing best practices to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital as part of its ongoing transformation.
Knecht has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Loyola University of Chicago and a certificate in nursing and health care leadership from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is a certified nurse executive with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
