Editor’s note: Members of the media are invited to cover the event. Please RSVP to Chris LaFortune at christopher.lafortune@ahss.org, or (630) 856-2354.

Glendale Heights – Adventist GlenOaks Hospital is the lead sponsor for a community breakfast May 1, an event celebrating the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer.

The Rev. Judith Ann Doran, an ordained Episcopal priest and 30-year veteran of the United States Air Force, will give the event’s keynote address. The theme of the 2014 National Day of Prayer is “One Voice United in Prayer.”

The breakfast runs from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at the Glendale Lakes Golf Club, 1550 President St. in Glendale Heights. This is the 15th year Adventist GlenOaks Hospital has sponsored the National Day of Prayer event, participating along with other community groups.

Tickets are $20 per person, or $200 for a table of 10. Tickets are $15 for veterans and active duty military. Seating is limited, so please RSVP by April 24 by calling (630) 856-7525, or by visiting www.keepingyouwell.com/aghprayer.

Bruce C. Christian, chief executive officer of Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, said the prayer breakfast is a natural outgrowth of the hospital’s faith-based mission.

“This annual event allows us the chance to build unity and encourage prayer by all faiths in America, as well as to reach out to our community partners to extend the healing ministry of Christ,” Christian said.

A graduate of Bexley Hall Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, Doran was ordained to the Episcopal diaconate in 2005 and to the priesthood in 2006. Doran retired from the Air Force in September 2002 as a Chief Master Sergeant and is a certified interim ministry specialist, serving congregations in their time of transition.

During her military career, she developed curricula for professional military education now used throughout the world. She spent more than 10 years in health care, serving as the senior enlisted health services manager and senior enlisted advisor for a community hospital and a major medical center.

The event’s other sponsors include: Addison Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce, Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce, Glendale Heights Chamber of Commerce, Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and Allegra Marketing/Print/Mail of Glendale Heights.
