Adventist Hinsdale Hospital names new COO

Hinsdale – Adventist Hinsdale Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Goebel as vice president and chief operating officer. Goebel is a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of executive-level healthcare experience.
Since 2006, Goebel, 50, has worked as the chief operating officer at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Colorado, where he was responsible for numerous areas of the hospital, including neurosciences, radiology, rehabilitation, laboratory, respiratory therapy and many others. He joined Adventist Hinsdale Hospital on March 8.
“Along with strong hospital operations skills, Michael is known for his long history of building robust relationships with physicians,” said David L. Crane, president and CEO, Adventist Midwest Health. “He is an inspiring leader and he will be an excellent partner in responding to our physicians’ needs.”
Goebel, of Hinsdale, has many achievements in implementing service excellence initiatives, resulting in improved patient, employee and physician satisfaction. In the last year at Littleton, physician and employee satisfaction scores significantly improved, and are some of the highest in the 12-hospital Centura System.
Crane knows firsthand about Goebel’s impressive accomplishments – he hired Goebel in Littleton, when he was CEO there before joining Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in 2006. “I was very impressed with his abilities as a leader and strategic thinker,” Crane said. “I’m honored he chose to join our team.”
Prior to his position at Littleton, Goebel spent 14 years at Regional West Medical Center, a level II trauma facility in Scottsbluff, Neb. There, he was instrumental in moving the organization forward from a service perspective as well as in financial performance. He also helped advance technology initiatives, leading the hospital to a “Most Wired” designation as early as 2003.
“Working for a hospital with more than 100 years of history in the community is inspiring,” Goebel said. “My wish is to build upon our mission of extending the healing the ministry of Christ and continue to serve the needs of our community.”
Goebel received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Union College in Lincoln, Neb. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago.
Recently, Goebel was selected to serve on the 2010 volunteer Baldridge Board of Examiners, which evaluates organizations eligible for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award.
Goebel replaces Alan Schneider, who has assumed the important role of Chief Patient Services Officer. In this position, Schneider will oversee the hospital’s $75 million modernization project. “This is a huge investment in our community and Alan’s experience in operations management is vital to the success of this project,” Crane said.
