Glendale Heights – Adventist GlenOaks Hospital recognized five physicians for their dedication to the hospital’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ. Value awards were bestowed in the areas of Christian service, excellence, stewardship, integrity and inclusiveness at a ceremony at the Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca May 15.

“Each of these five physicians lives the mission of our hospital by demonstrating extraordinary service beyond their everyday medical responsibilities,” said Adventist GlenOaks Hospital Chief Executive Officer Bruce C. Christian. “They demonstrate their personal values through their work with patients, family and hospital staff. Each places the needs of the patient first. They are great listeners and effective leaders.”

Dr. David deRamos, a family medicine specialist, received the Christian service award. The Roselle resident has been at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital since 1992 and chairs the pharmacy and therapeutics committee. The Christian service award honors physicians who clearly demonstrate placing others above themselves and treating others as they would want to be treated.

“Dr. deRamos is wonderful because he will come in to see his patients no matter what time it is,” wrote a staff member in his nomination. “He is here sometimes at 11 p.m. to see his new admissions.”

Dr. Dale Liaugminas, an obstetrics and gynecology specialist, is the recipient of the excellence award, which recognizes commitment to professional development, high quality clinical care for patients, and high patient satisfaction scores. Liaugminas has been on staff since 1982 and chair of the obstetrics and gynecology department since 2005.

“Dr. Liaugminas has been my doctor through my last two pregnancies and he has a bedside manner that is incomparable,” one patient wrote.

According to a colleague who nominated him, Liaugminas, of Wheaton, “is an excellent, well-rounded doctor who provides outstanding quality of care and achieves patient satisfaction.”

Dr. Emad Amer, a psychiatrist on staff at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital since 2000, and chair of the psychiatry department since 2008, is the recipient of the stewardship award. The stewardship award recognizes physicians who have improved patient care while also reducing costs and streamlining procedures. Colleagues say that Amer, of Glen Ellyn, is always striving to improve patient care and outcomes.

“Dr. Amer is always willing to assist in all areas,” a staff member wrote in his nomination. “He is willing to do what is best for the patient in his care and the staff here at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. He is honest, direct and open.”

Dr. Lisa Wohl, an ophthalmologist on staff since 1991, received the integrity award. She was nominated because she has “lived the mission of Adventist Midwest Health by faithfully carrying out and going beyond her daily medical staff responsibilities,” according to her nomination.

Wohl, a Wayne resident, is chair of the credentials committee and served as president of the medical staff from 2000 to 2010. She has also served as chair for the department of surgery and is known for her compassionate care and keeping her patients informed of all aspects of treatment.

Dr. Suneel Udani, a specialist in nephrology who joined the staff in 2011, received the award for inclusiveness, which recognizes physicians who value teamwork toward common goals over individual needs.

According to colleagues, Udani, of Chicago, has demonstrated his inclusiveness through his active participation in teamwork and at meetings, by volunteering to take on extra responsibilities and by his effective work in bringing other physicians together.

“We love him as a team player, educator and patient’s advocate,” a nurse wrote in his nomination. He is known for seeking out nurses and other clinicians to collaborate on patient care.
