Glendale Heights – Adventist GlenOaks Hospital and Glenside Public Library are celebrating the second anniversary of a unique partnership: providing new mothers with a special gift for their babies – their first picture book.
Every new mother who has delivered a baby at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital since April 1, 2010 has been offered a gift certificate redeemable for a new book and baby bib from the library. Several hundred books and baby bibs have been distributed through this program.
Mothers or any family members can come to the library at 25 East Fullerton Ave. in Glendale Heights to redeem the certificates. New parents who live in the library district can apply for a free library card.
Even in infancy, a baby’s eyes can focus on simple black and white images, stimulating their brain.
“It’s never too early to start reading with your child,” said Bruce C. Christian, chief executive officer of Adventist GlenOaks Hospital. ““When you read to your child, he or she hears you using many different sounds and emotions, which fosters social and emotional development. Adventist GlenOaks Hospital is focused on whole-person health and wellness from birth on up.”
