Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital presents educational programs, screenings

Bolingbrook – Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is presenting education programs and screenings this fall. Details are below: 

 

Knee problems are one of the most common injuries today.  Have your knee problem or injury assessed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. John Lee and physical therapists and take home an exercise program and tips on managing common knee problems at this free knee screening. The event will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Adventist Plainfield Imaging & Outpatient Center, 15720 Route 59, Plainfield. Registration is required. An estimated 25 percent of women in the U.S. have fibroids, and African American women are more likely to develop fibroids.  Some of the symptoms include back pain, heavy bleeding and frequent urination, if this sounds like you, there is help. Dr. Steven Smith, an interventional radiologist, will discuss the treatment options available to women who suffer from uterine fibroids. This free event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Boulevard, Bolingbrook. To register, call (630) 856-7525.

 

Prostate cancer screening is recommended for men age 50 and older, or men 45 and older, who are African American or have a family history of prostate cancer. Screening includes a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a digital rectal exam. Join Dr. Donald Sweet, hematologist/oncologist, as he discusses risk factors and breast cancer susceptibility, recommendations for women who are at risk for hereditary breast cancer, and the impact of genetic testing. A risk assessment screening is included in this free program. Learn the latest in genetics and breast cancer at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Boulevard, Bolingbrook. To register, call (630) 856-7525.

 

The Will County Health Department proudly offers area residents top quality, evidence-based programs addressing tobacco dependence, The Freedom From Smoking program provides participants with continual group support while helping smokers to develop skills to manage stress, control weight, and fight the smoking urges. Freedom From Smoking participants attend a 90-minute class once a week for seven weeks and have the option to receive up to six weeks of the nicotine patch or lozenge free of charge. The cost of the program is $25 per person, which covers the cost of program materials.
