Curriculum

The Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program curriculum meets all ACGME, American Board of Family Medicine and American Osteopathic Association requirements. Faculty update the curriculum to reflect advances in medical research and developments in the practice of family medicine.

The program includes rotations in a broad range of specialties and stresses the learning of procedures. Consistent with current guidelines, the curriculum incorporates strong components in disease prevention, health promotion, sports and recreational medicine, psychiatry and behavioral science, substance abuse, HIV infections/AIDS and adolescent health. We provide neonatal resuscitation courses and advanced cardiac life support classes.

Recognizing the family medicine physician’s social responsibility, the program gives residents opportunities to engage in community outreach and education, work with public health agencies and treat those who cannot afford health care. The residents have the opportunity to participate in mission trips and to provide medical care in severely impoverished regions of the world. In 2010 and 2011 residents, faculty, staff and volunteers traveled to Costa Rica. They provided much needed medical care to over 1000 men, women and children in the underserved areas.
