Your Child’s Stay

Our staff offers comprehensive tours of our facilities for children and parents preparing for surgery. We can schedule a tour on pre-admission testing day for you and your child.

If that isn’t convenient, we’ll work with your schedule. Through our calming décor, state-of-the-art equipment, and skilled, compassionate staff, we strive to ensure that children feel safe and cared for during their hospital stay. We also recognize that family is crucial to maintaining a sense of well-being and minimizing feelings of stress. Because of that, we encourage family involvement at every stage of care.

We have a “quiet room” where parents can rest in a calming environment while their children are sleeping or in surgery. We are happy to provide accommodations (a “sleeping chair”) for parents who want to spend the night beside their children, and we encourage both parents to stay wherever space permits. Our nurses are monitoring your child 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are frequently re-evaluating your child’s condition. If you are sleeping, nursing staff may not awaken you as it is important for you to get your rest. If you wish to be awakened, please let us know, and we’ll be sure to follow through.

We also understand that extended family and siblings are concerned and may want to offer support and visit. For the health and well-being of the child, we ask families to please consider that visitation may be restricted. Some of our patients are contagious. Hospitalized children often have their sleep disrupted by medical necessity. Because of these and other considerations, we ask that siblings remain in your child’s room, play quietly and wash their hands upon arriving and before leaving.

Because sick children don’t always eat and play at normal hours, we keep movies, books and art supplies available at all times. Our kitchen is stocked with baby food, formula, juices, milk, cereal, macaroni and cheese, popsicles, ice cream, soup, crackers and more. We also have coffee and tea for parents. Many times, favorite foods can be brought from home and stored in the kitchen.
