Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
At Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, we understand that obesity is a complex disease, not just a problem of “willpower.” We recognize that it takes a team to address the variety of factors that contribute to this process. We acknowledge surgery is only one tool among several that are used by our healthcare team. We are dedicated to work with you to help you obtain your individualized weight loss goals.
Our Program Offers:
One-on-One Surgeon Consultation
You will meet with Dr. Vafa Shayani, board certified general surgeon and bariatric surgery specialist, and have your current health status assessed. We also will offer services for your routine well care maintenance such as a mammogram (for women over the age of 40) or colonoscopy (if you are over the age of 50) as well as any other medical consultations that may be required for the completion of the program. We encourage your primary care physician to be involved in this process.
Our bariatric dietitian will educate you on all the aspects of the specific diet that is required prior to surgery, immediately after surgery and for band adjustments.
Our experts will meet with you individually for an evaluation. Our objective is to identify barriers to achieving your goals and support your success in the future.
Pre and Post Surgery Education
Our bariatric nurse coordinator will provide you with in depth education and resources to arm you and your support network with valuable information that will promote a healthier outcome and make you a better, safer, surgical candidate.
Monthly educational support groups will provide you with an opportunity to share ideas discuss your progress and personally apply concepts learned. Extended individual and group counseling sessions are available for those who are interested.
