Hinsdale – A new cardiovascular surgical team led by Dr. Pat Pappas, who with his team were the first in Illinois to send a patient home with a total artificial heart, has joined the Adventist Heart and Vascular Institute.
Dr. Pappas, head of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates, S.C. (CTVSA), is the new medical director of cardiovascular surgery at the Institute. His team joined the Adventist Heart and Vascular Institute on March 22.
Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates is a privately held practice of surgeons serving heart care programs across Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Along with the total artificial heart procedure, the team was also the first to perform robotic mitral valve repair and to send a patient home with a ventricular assist device to treat heart failure.
“The quality of care offered by the Adventist Heart and Vascular Institute is a good fit for my team,” Pappas said. “We’re glad to lend our experience to the services they offer and excited about collaborating with the excellent physicians at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.”
Among the services the group will provide are open heart surgery, coronary artery bypass and heart valve surgeries, including minimally invasive valve surgery techniques. Also, the team will provide thoracic and vascular surgical services as well as evaluations for patients with advanced heart failure. The team will provide these services at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.
The team joins the experienced and knowledgeable physician groups already performing quality work for the Institute. They include Illinois Heart and Vascular of Hinsdale; Suburban Cardiology of Hinsdale; Suburban Radiologists of La Grange and Vascular and Interventional Radiology with Adventist Midwest Health.
“The addition of Dr. Pappas’ team to the Institute means we can offer a wide range of treatment options to our surrounding communities including complex, minimally invasive surgery and will undoubtedly compete with the best programs in the western suburbs. I am extremely confident that the programs at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist LaGrange Hospital will flourish and grow with our association with the new surgical group.” said Michael Palluzzi, cardiovascular service line administrator for the Adventist Heart and Vascular Institute.
The team from Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates includes Dr. Michael A. Bresticker, Dr. Antone J. Tatooles, Dr. Eugene M. Tanquilut, Dr. Sinan A. Simisir, Dr. George T. Hodakowski, Dr. Paul J. Gordon, Dr. Mini Sivadasan, Dr. Sammy I. Nawas and Dr. Aswath Subram.
