Got prayer?

Bolingbrook, IL – For one week, the chapel at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital will be transformed into an around-the-clock house of prayer. Volunteers from the hospital and the community have committed to create a sacred space for 24 hours of daily prayer from April 28 to May 5, the week surrounding National Day of Prayer. National Day of Prayer will be celebrated May 1 this year.

“One week of continuous prayer is an opportunity for us to partner with the community to pray for physical, emotional and spiritual needs,” said Kathy Mitchell, chief nursing officer at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. “As a faith-based organization, we recognize that there are so many people who are in need of prayer.”

There will be a variety of interactive and reflective prayer experiences with a volunteer “prayer guardian” available for individual prayers around the clock.

“The Bible tells us that even one person’s prayers are powerful, but when two or three are gathered to pray together, the power of prayer becomes exponentially stronger,” said Vicky Syren, manager of pastoral care at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. “When prayer efforts are happening 24 hours a day for a seven-day period, it makes for a remarkably powerful event.”

The event is modeled after a similar prayer week held at Florida Hospital in Orlando and in conjunction with the worldwide 24-7 prayer movement started in Great Britain in 1999 (, explained Elisa Brown, assistant to the chief financial officer at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and one of the event’s organizers. Florida Hospital also is a member of the Adventist Health System.

Church youth groups, Bible study groups or other organizations looking for a service project are invited to reserve one-hour time slots at For more information, contact Brown at (630) 312-6019. Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is located at 500 Remington Blvd.
