Employee achieves cancer data management certification

Hinsdale – Holly Wayteck, RHIT, CTR, a certified data specialist in the cancer data management department at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, recently became a certified tumor registrar (CTR) after passing an exam administered by the National Cancer Registrars Association. Cancer registrars capture a complete summary of the history, diagnosis, treatment, and disease status for every cancer patient. Registrars’ work leads to better information that is used in the management of cancer, and ultimately, cures. Worldwide, there are more than 4,800 National Cancer Registrars Association members and CTRs.

Qualifications to take the 4 ½-hour exam include a minimum of an associate’s degree in a health-related field and a minimum of one year of full-time work experience in the cancer registry field.

Seermon, a two-year employee, lives in Palos Hills. She passed the exam in September.

All seven members of the cancer data management team serving both Adventist La Grange Memorial and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital have attained this certification.

“Certification promotes excellence in the cancer registry field, in our cancer program, and in our own facility. We are very proud to have an entire team of CTRs, where most facilities employ only one,” said Clarissa Moholick, MHSA, CCRP, CTR, regional manager, Cancer Data Management/Research Review Board & Research Support, Adventist Midwest Health. “Because of our dedicated and well-educated team, the quality of our data is outstanding and trusted by our hospital and physicians. Our rates of accuracy and completeness are greater than 99 percent. This is a true credit to this outstanding team.”
