AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange Earns Five-Star Rating from CMS

(ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., NOV. 3, 2016) – AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a designation that ranks the hospital among the nation's best.

CMS rated more than 4,600 hospitals in its quarterly Hospital Compare study, and only 112, or 2.4 percent, received the five-star designation.

CMS publishes the ratings on its Hospital Compare website to help patients and their families select the right hospital for them by comparing hospitals based on the quality of care they provide.

"This rating is a testament to the skills of our physicians and staff," said Michael Goebel, Chief Executive Officer of AMITA Health La Grange and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale. "It reflects their strong commitment to quality and patient safety and their tireless efforts to implement and adhere to the latest evidence-based best practices for patient care."

A hospital's star rating summarizes up to 64 quality measures reported on the Hospital Compare website. They reflect a hospital's performance in treating common conditions, such as heart attacks or pneumonia, and avoiding hospital-acquired infections, such as catheter-associated urinary tract infections.

The overall rating can range from one star to five stars, and the more stars a hospital receives, the better it has performed overall on the available quality measures. The rating does not reflect performance in specialized, cutting-edge care, such as specialized cancer care.

AMITA Health La Grange performed above the national average in five quality-measure categories, including mortality, readmissions, patient experience, effectiveness of care and timeliness of care, according to CMS.

Released in October, the latest CMS ratings are based on data that hospitals submitted to CMS through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program and the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Program.
