Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital
Some chronic wounds require more advanced treatment in order to heal. That’s why the Adventist La Grange Wound Care Center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps the body heal wounds more efficiently. If you receive this treatment, you will breathe pure oxygen while enclosed in a chamber of greater-than-normal atmospheric pressure, saturating your blood with oxygen. This oxygen saturated blood circulates to your wounds, promoting healthy circulation that can clear infection and improve healing.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help heal a wound from the inside out, and can reduce swelling, build new blood vessels and help produce healthy tissue.
Beyond Wound Care
Reaching even beyond the healing of wounds, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be used to treat bone damage in patients who have received radiation therapy and can help with soft tissue injury caused by radiation.
Hyperbaric radiation therapy has also been approved to treat other health problems, including decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning and brain abscess.
Hyperbaric Chambers at the Adventist La Grange Wound Care Center
The hyperbaric chambers at the Adventist La Grange Wound Care Center are tubes of clear glass, giving you a view of allthe surroundings throughout the two-hour oxygen treatment. A staff technician will remain with you throughout the treatment process, and you can rest quietly in the chamber or catch up on your favorite shows and movies by watching television screens installed in the treatment room.
