Don’t Forget to Warm Up
Yes, warming up is for yard chores and gardening too! Do arm, leg and back stretches slowly and carefully during your warm up. Hold each stretch for at least 15-20 seconds.
Avoid dehydration. Don't forget your water bottle!

Mowing
Adjust mower handle to allow arms to be in a relaxed position and close to body. Stand tall and walk with the lawn mower. Self propelled is preferred.
Stay balanced. Wear proper shoes and save the flip flops for the beach!

Weeding/Planting
Squat or kneel but keep your back straight. Kneeling on a foam pad is recommended. Don’t grab and pull extremely hard on weeds in dry soil; loosen the dirt around it first with a shovel so it comes out more easily. Wear gloves; padded palms are helpful if doing a lot of small tool digging.
Choose wide handle tools. Hold with a light grip and frequently open your hand to rest it.

Shoveling
Push from end of handle shifting body weight from back leg to front. Keep back straight and knees bent. Do not twist from the waist with a load in your arms, turn with your feet.
Rotate tasks or take brief breaks to avoid strain from prolonged repetition.
