'Of all the therapists I have met, the ones at Paulson appear to be very happy in their work'

Over the past 11 years, Edward Jaeky, former Indian Head Park Village president and consultant for Scholastic, has undergone a hip replacement, back survey, shoulder separation and, most recently, a total left knee replacement.

Consequently, Jaeky has experienced a number of rehabilitative facilities, therapists and treatments. However, Adventist Paulson Rehabilitation in Willowbrook, where Jaeky had therapy on his knee, surpasses them all.

“The support staff treats patients with the utmost care and should be commended for their friendliness and professionalism,” Jaeky said. “Of all the therapists I have met, the ones at Paulson appear to be very happy in their work. You can sense it the moment you walk in.”

A week following the total replacement of his knee, worn out from years of playing basketball, football and baseball, Jaeky became too active and re-injured his knee, necessitating extended therapy at Adventist Paulson Rehabilitation in Willowbrook. There, in addition to receiving physical therapy, Jaeky saw therapists cooperating with each other and helping patients in various ways that extended beyond the prescribed treatments.

For instance, a patient missed the “wet paint,” sign and hung up his coat on a wall hook. A therapist immediately noticed the blunder and scurried to the bathroom to rinse the paint off the coat. It’s that extra consideration of patients, who often come to rehabilitation discouraged and uncomfortable or in pain, that makes the difference, Jaeky said.

“There’s a lot of moaning and groaning that goes on in rehab facilities,” Jaeky said, “but the staff at Paulson makes our time there pretty pleasant.”

Jaeky was especially impressed with the care and informative counseling he received from his physical therapist, Patricia Walz.

“Patricia was an absolute marvel,” Jaeky said. “She was always upbeat and extremely timely with appointments. At the start of my sessions, she realized I had a broken left ankle bone that was never set, so she customized my treatment, noting serious restrictions regarding the movement of my left foot.”
