Curriculum
The Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program curriculum meets all ACGME, AAFP and American Board of Family Medicine requirements while offering the flexibility to pursue elective interests, particularly in the third year. Faculty update the curriculum to reflect advances in medical research and developments in the practice of family medicine.
The program includes rotations in a broad range of specialties and stresses the learning of procedures, ranging from outpatient (e.g. flexible sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy) to in-patient (e.g. arterial line, Swan-Ganz spinal tap).
Consistent with current AAFP guidelines, the curriculum incorporates strong components in disease prevention, health promotion, sports and recreational medicine, psychiatry and behavioral science, substance abuse, HIV infection/AIDS and adolescent health. We provide neonatal resuscitation courses and advanced cardiac life support classes.
Recognizing the family practice physician's social responsibility, the program gives residents opportunities to engage in community outreach and education, work with public health agencies and treat those who cannot afford health care.
