We hope the following information will help you feel more comfortable and informed as you prepare for surgery.
Please contact Pre-Admission Services at 630-856-7074 with any questions.
Arrival at the Hospital
You will be asked to arrive 1 1/2 - 2 hours prior to your surgery start time. After you check-in at the information desk in the main lobby, you will be directed to the Day Surgery area on the first floor of the hospital.
What to Expect
You will be admitted and prepared for your surgery by the Day Surgery staff. They will review your admission history for any changes, obtain any additional testing ordered by your surgeon or anesthesiologist, perform pre-operative preps and provide you with education on what to expect before and after your surgery. At this time, you will also meet with your anesthesiologist, your surgeon and the surgical team. Your family will be able to stay with you as time allows, and will be kept informed of your progress through a tracking board and/or surgical liaison's verbal reports.
Learn more about anesthesia and sedation here.
After surgery you will be taken to the recovery area. You will spend at least an hour in recovery while the staff monitor your progress. Your patience is important as the recovery process is also custom to your procedure and your current health circumstance. When you are ready to move from recovery, you will be taken back to your arrival area before being discharged or assigned to a room if you are staying in the hospital.
Preparing for Surgery
When your surgeon schedules your procedure, a representative from Pre-Admission Testing will contact you to ask a series of health-related questions to individualize your plan of care. If you need blood work or additional testing, an appointment will be scheduled prior to surgery.
In order to help us make your stay at AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale go as smoothly as possible, please follow these instructions before your surgery.
Pre-Op Phone Confirmation
The afternoon before your surgery, you will receive a phone call to confirm your check-in time. If your surgery is on a Monday, you will receive a phone call on Friday. Please provide the hospital with a phone number where you can reached the day of surgery, should there be any changes in your admission time.
Attention same day surgery patients: transportation home after surgery must be arranged in advance. You must have a responsible adult driver to drive you home or accompany you if you take a cab home. You may not drive for 24 hours after surgery. A responsible adult should be available to you for the first night (after receiving anesthesia).
