Hinsdale – The Hinsdale Hospital Medical Staff Auxiliary will host “Scoop Up Some Wellness,” the 55th Annual Ice Cream Social, from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in Burlington Park in downtown Hinsdale. Admission to this fun-filled event is free and ice cream, hotdogs, pizza, nachos and beverages will be available for a nominal fee.
All proceeds raised from the event will benefit the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Developmental Care Fund. Developmental Care focuses on a patient and family tailored approach. Studies have shown that premature infants who receive developmental care have better long-term outcomes.
“Each year we add something new and different to insure that this annual event tops off the summer’s activities,” said Medical Staff Auxiliary President Ann Hickey. “We enjoy being able to provide our community with family entertainment while educating them about important health issues.”
Newly added to the event is a Royal Treatment Salon that allows little girls to look like princesses with the help of the Junior Board. Other family entertainment includes a cake walk, moon bounce, stuffed toy animal clinic sponsored by the emergency department, and a kids’ entertainment stage that features Irish dancers, a magic show, and a Jazzercise demonstration.
The ice cream social will also host healthy living demonstrations at hospital booths and throughout the park. The Hinsdale Fire and Police Departments will be on hand with equipment, fire trucks, child fingerprinting opportunities, and fatal vision goggles to demonstrate the dangers of impaired drivers. Some of the activities will be offered at a minimal fee.
“This afternoon of family fun and health tips is an impressive showcase of the quality of our medical staff that helps us demonstrate our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ,” said David Crane, chief executive officer of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. “We are truly thankful that our dedicated Auxiliary team is able to put together such a wonderful event every year.”
