Oct. 1 tree lighting in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness
Hinsdale – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital will host a Pink Tree Lighting Ceremony Oct. 1.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. in the patient pavilion lobby at the hospital, 120 N. Oak St. in Hinsdale.

As part of the ceremony, there will be a panel discussion. Dr. Patricia Madej will discuss cancer treatment options at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital; Associate Clinical Director of Oncology and Navigation Services Jeannine Arias will highlight services the hospital provides cancer patients; and former patient Claudine Consalvo will share her own treatment experience.

A Chicago resident, Consalvo underwent surgery for breast cancer at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in the spring of 2012. The patient navigators and hospital staff supported her through the entire process, and that support was a bright spot in what was an otherwise difficult period of her life, she said.

“I really appreciated the personalized attention, and they were just great to deal with,” Consalvo said. “They helped me navigate through it all with ease. They were extremely caring and treated me with respect.”

The evening will also feature a performance by the Hinsdale Adventist Academy choir and refreshments.

The winners of the Pink Ribbon Art Contest will be announced during the ceremony, and a silent auction will be held where people can purchase artwork submitted for the contest. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Open Arms Breast Cancer Outreach Fund.

The fund focuses on sustaining programs dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients and their families. The goal is to bring hope and healing by helping individuals navigate the difficult journey through cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Last year, contributions to the Open Arms Fund from various programs, including the Oak Brook Park District’s Pink 5K, provided free mammograms to uninsured women in the area.
