Hospital pharmacist still loves job after 40 years
La Grange – Although Louise Moore has seen the healthcare industry change dramatically over the years, she enjoys being a pharmacist as much as she did on her first day at the Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital pharmacy 40 years ago. As a result, this Western Springs resident was recently honored at the Adventist Midwest Health annual service awards for her dedication to the hospital.
“As one of only two women in my graduating class from pharmacy school, I’ve seen the industry evolve,” Moore said. “Working in pharmacy is very different now, but I love it just the same.”
Moore says the biggest change she has seen since she began working for Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital has been the integration of computers and automation. While the move has been a challenge, she has greatly enjoyed her experience with the hospital.
“I made $1.35 at my very first job,” says Moore. “While times have changed, the unity among the employees at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital has been constant.”
Moore currently works from home doing statistical work to stay current with new drugs. In addition, she is a part of the pharmacy and therapeutic committee that researches adverse drug reactions for the Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital pharmacy. She also works one day a month in the pharmacy.
“I love doing this job,” said Moore. “I enjoy completing orders, talking to nurses, and helping sick patients.”
According to Moore, being a pharmacist allowed her to spend time with her family while maintaining her career. She worked part time for 20 of her 40 years so she could take care of her husband and two sons. Moore says she currently enjoys going for walks and reading pharmacy journals in her spare time.
Chief Executive Officer Rick Wright praised Moore for her many years of service.
“So many great things happen inside our hospital,” said Wright. “We are truly thankful Louise has dedicated 40 years to our organization.”
More than 350 employees were recognized for dedicating 10 or more years of service to Adventist Midwest Health. Employees received gifts and were recognized at the organization’s annual service awards dinner, held April 16 at the Doubletree Esplanade Lakes in Downers Grove.
