Bolingbrook – Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital was recognized as the 2009 Business of the Year by the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce. The award was bestowed at the fifth annual Best of Bolingbrook Businesses Awards banquet, held Feb. 27 at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. Business of the Year is the organization’s highest honor.
“We’re extremely honored to be recognized by the Bolingbrook Chamber as business of the year,” said Rick Mace, chief executive officer of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. “Since we opened our doors a year ago, this community has embraced us with open arms. Every day, our patients tell us how much they appreciate our team of caregivers. It’s quite humbling. We are looking forward to meeting the region’s health care needs for generations to come.”
Of the chamber’s 675 members, more than 40 businesses were nominated for the award. Nominees were required to describe their unique and innovative business approaches, highlight corporate citizenship initiatives and explain how they set themselves apart from competitors. In its four-page nomination form, Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital noted that it became Illinois’ first new hospital in 25 years when it opened Jan. 14, 2008. The 138-bed, 310,000 square-foot hospital was designed with patients in mind, with private family-friendly patient rooms designed for comfort and ease. The hospital also one of the area’s largest employers, with 525 full-time workers. Specialties include cardiac care, imaging services, a women’s care center with a Level II nursery, pain treatment and management, surgical services and interventional radiology.
“The greater Bolingbrook community had eagerly anticipated the opening of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital,” said Mike Evans, executive director of the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce. “But we could not have anticipated how life-changing it would be. Simply put, we no longer have to travel outside of our community for medical care. And the quality of care offered at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is second to none. It is for that reason and more that we recognized the hospital as business of the year.”
Added Alyssia Lee, president of the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce: “The hospital also serves as an important economic development engine for the entire region, enhancing our quality of life. New jobs were created, benefitting residents and business owners alike.”
The hospital also was among four organizations nominated in the awards category of large business of the year.
