Hinsdale Hospital Foundation board member to be honored

Hinsdale, IL – Hinsdale Hospital Foundation board member Sally Porter will be recognized by the West Suburban Philanthropic Network at its annual awards luncheon May 21. Porter, a Hinsdale resident, will receive the 2008 Philanthropic Leadership Award not only for her work with the Hospital Foundation but also for her leadership in advancing philanthropic endeavors throughout the western suburbs.

“The Hinsdale Hospital Foundation was pleased to nominate Sally for this distinguished award not only because of her extraordinary commitment to the Foundation but also for all she does for so many local nonprofit organizations,” said Susan King, Executive Director of the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation. “As a member of the Foundation Board of Directors and its Digital Mammography Initiative, she has helped generate significant resources that brought an amazing new technology for breast cancer detection to women and their families served by Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.”

Porter is a founding member of the Hospital Foundation’s Community Relations Committee, serves on the Executive, Marketing and Centennial Gala Award Dinner Committees, and is a former chair of the Foundation’s Assembly Board. She is now leading the Foundation’s Digital Mammography Initiative as a member of the Steering Committee. This effort will raise $3.2 million, bringing advanced breast cancer detection technology to women in the western suburbs.

In addition, Porter has advanced a variety of campaigns and events for other local nonprofits. She has held leadership positions with The Community House in Hinsdale, Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Metropolitan Family Services DuPage, Hinsdale Humane Society, and Harris Bank Hinsdale. She is also a founding member and currently First Vice President of the Brookfield Zoo Women’s Board, a life member of the Robert Crown Center women’s auxiliary, and a founding member of the Hanson Center Community Advisory Board, where she chaired its first benefit and co-chaired the Boundless Playground Building committee.

“Her tireless work to help strengthen these groups reflects a deeply held devotion and a willingness to make a personal commitment to the well-being of those served by these organizations,” said Jill McWilliams, Co-chair of the West Suburban Philanthropic Network’s awards luncheon.
