Free screenings to assess heart disease and diabetes risk

Media contact: Lisa Parro, senior public relations specialist, Adventist Midwest Health,

Hinsdale – Every year heart disease and diabetes are leading causes of death for Americans, but with testing, adults can prevent heart disease caused by high cholesterol.  If you are worried about your cholesterol levels, sign up for a free glucose and lipid profile blood screening.

Screenings are available from 9 a.m. to noon July 10 at the Oak Brook Park District, 1450 Forest Gate Road, Oak Brook, and July 24 at the Community House, 415 W. Eighth Street, Hinsdale.  Call 630-856-7525 to register.

The free screening consists of a combination of tests including HDL, LDL and triglycerides tests and a fasting glucose test.  An additional screening will also be offered for hypoglycemia and pre-diabetes.  For the most accurate test results, patients should fast for 14 to 16 hours, drink plenty of water, take prescribed medications, and avoid candy, chewing gum, coffee and cigarettes.
