Media contact:    Lisa Parro, senior public relations specialist, Adventist Midwest Health 630-312-7508

Glendale Heights –Adventist GlenOaks Hospital is pleased to offer area women a chance to focus on themselves at its upcoming annual Women’s Health & Business Symposium. The event will be held April 30 at Abbington Banquets, 3 S 002 Route 53, Glen Ellyn. The exhibitor area will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first 200 women to attend will receive a free cholesterol screening. Ten hours of fasting are required prior to the screening.

Dr. Steven Smith, an interventional radiologist who treats patients at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, will give a lecture at 9:30 a.m. on uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). UFE is a minimally invasive procedure to treat fibroids without surgery.

“With hysterectomy, patients pay a permanent price that may not be necessary,” Smith said. “Every woman who is advised to have this surgery should get a second opinion.”

At noon, a panel of clinical professionals, including physicians, will discuss the top two health-related issues facing women today: breast cancer and heart disease. The specific topics are “To Screen or Not to Screen: Deciphering the Mammogram Question” and “The Latest Technology for the Aching Heart,” a look at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s EnSite Velocity treatment for heart rhythm disorders.

Other special guests include keynote speaker Michelle McKinney Hammond. Hammond, scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m., is a bestselling author, speaker, singer and television co-host. She has authored more than 30 books, including best-selling titles The Diva Principle, Sassy, Single and Satisfied, 101 Ways to Get and Keep His Attention, and Secrets of an Irresistible Woman. A gifted vocalist, Hammond has recorded two CDs and co-hosted the Emmy Award-winning television talk show Aspiring Women.

Another special guest is Christie Northrup. Northrup, scheduled to speak at 2:15 p.m., is an experienced direct sales professional with nearly 30 years in the industry. She has taught tens of thousands of direct sales consultants and leaders her unique, field-proven concepts and techniques for retaining them through outstanding customer service and communication.

Lunch will be provided from noon to 1 p.m. Admission to the event is free, but a $5 donation is encouraged. The fee benefits women’s services at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital.
