Hinsdale – A seasoned legal expert with more than 20 years of experience has joined Adventist Midwest Health. Nanette Bufalino 54, of Chicago, is Adventist Midwest Health’s new chief legal officer.
Bufalino comes to the position from Edward Hospital in Naperville, where she served as vice president and general counsel for 18 years. She brings to the organization a wealth of experience in healthcare legal and regulatory issues, general corporate law, corporate compliance, health care licensure, payment issues, and physician practice issues. The appointment is effective Jan. 17.
“Nanette comes to us with remarkable credentials and stellar recommendations,” said David L. Crane, president and chief executive officer, Adventist Midwest Health.
Bufalino said she looks forward to working for a faith-based hospital system. Supporting the delivery of excellent care while staying true to Adventist Midwest Health’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ will be among her biggest challenges amid the changing healthcare climate, Bufalino said.
“Like most other U.S. healthcare systems, the challenge for Adventist Midwest Health will be continuing to provide outstanding clinical care in today’s challenging economic environment,” Bufalino said. “It’s hard to say with certainty what the next six months will look like.”
Bufalino’s appointment marks the successful conclusion of a nationwide search for qualified candidates. A key member of the executive team, the chief legal officer oversees and coordinates legal activities and functions to ensure the development and maintenance of the legal posture for Adventist Midwest Health, which includes Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, and Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. The chief legal officer also establishes legal services required by the organization, ensures that the organization is protected from any legal action, and provides officers and directors with advice and guidance regarding the application of legal principals.
Bufalino will be based at the regional office at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, 120 N. Oak St.
Bufalino earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame, a law degree from Loyola University in Chicago and a master’s in business administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
