Hinsdale – The Hinsdale Hospital Medical Staff Auxiliary will host “Look What’s Happening in Your Own Backyard,” the 57th Annual Ice Cream Social, from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 in Burlington Park in downtown Hinsdale. Admission to this fun-filled event is free; ice cream, Doggie Diner hotdogs, Lucca’s pizza, nachos and beverages will be available for a nominal fee.
All proceeds raised from the event will benefit Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s new patient pavilion, targeted for opening in early 2012. Private patient rooms are the centerpiece of the newly redesigned facility. The project also will result in new corridors that segregate patient and visitor traffic, updated nursing units, a more comfortable surgical waiting room, a new lobby and chapel, and convenient parking. Overnight guests will be able to sleep more comfortably in the room with their loved one.
“Each year we hear stories about how this annual event tops off the summer’s activities,” said Dina Kritsas, medical staff auxiliary president. “It’s an important part of our mission to provide our community with family entertainment while educating them on important health issues. They can also preview our 2012 fundraiser, “Dancing With OUR Stars.”
Returning family entertainment includes a cake walk, jump and bounce, and a TY Teddy Bear clinic sponsored by Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s Koplin Emergency & Trauma Center. The first 1,000 children will take home a TY beanie baby with any pretend bumps or bruises cured! Under the entertainment tent, participants can enjoy Irish dancers, a kid’s variety show, and other fun activities. Also, residents can enjoy their ice cream in yellow hard hat cups, in keeping with the construction theme.
The ice cream social will also host healthy living demonstrations at hospital booths throughout the park. The Hinsdale Fire and Police Departments will be on hand with equipment, fire trucks, child fingerprinting opportunities, and fatal vision goggles to demonstrate the dangers of impaired drivers. There will also be several children’s games and prizes. Some of the activities will be offered at a minimal fee.
“We see the annual ice cream social as another opportunity to share our vision with our community as we step into this exciting growth phase,” said David L. Crane, chief executive officer of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. “We are truly thankful that our dedicated Auxiliary team is able to put together such a family-focused event.”
